Break the Routine!

Break Your Routine

educate yourself on all the types of training you could be doing

Many people find one way of training that works for them and become too comfortable with it, meaning that they stop looking for other ways to train. This can be bad for two reasons. Firstly, because you can become bored of your training style and your body could develop a tolerance to it and secondly because you don’t know what else is out there and what might work better for you.

These are the basic methods of training a brief description of what they are:

  • Fartlek – varying the speed or type of training you are doing
  • Continuous – sustained exercise over the duration of your workout
  • Interval – breaking up your exercise with rest periods
  • Circuit – miniature workout as a part of a larger workout routine
  • Weights – strength, endurance, power with resistance to movement

The method of training you should use depends heavily on what your goals are. Bodybuilders would tend to favour weight training, explosive athletes with fartlek training and endurance athletes with continuous training. This is, however, not my focus. My focus is on the fitness hobbyists, who I believe should try all of these and continue to do the ones they enjoy. If your goal is to get fitter and look better, every single one of those can help you so it can’t hurt to give them a go!

YouTube is a godsend for workout inspiration and ideas. I am currently working on my own YouTube channel because I know how much people can benefit from simple videos explaining things to them, motivating them and giving general advice. I’ll be sure to mention it when I have it up and running but there is already some great material out there, it is worth the time it takes to just sit to take a look through some clips!

Another thing you must consider are the benefits you can get from working both aerobically (with plentiful oxygen) and anaerobically (with insufficient oxygen). Aerobic exercise works wonders for your cardiovascular system, increasing its efficiency the more you work it, which is brilliant for your overall fitness. That being said, I feel like anaerobic training is often neglected yet can be so beneficial for those of you who are working on a fat loss programme. Without sufficient oxygen, your body relies on your fat store for energy, so by working anaerobically you’re burning a lot more of that unwanted fat! Both these types of training raise your metabolism for hours after the workout, which is great if you can’t stop yourself having those post-gym snacks!

Anyone who wants to know more about any of these training methods or how they can fit them in to their workouts please do not hesitate to get in touch, I am happy to help! I know it can be daunting to try something new, especially if you don’t know too much about it, but I promise you that educating yourself on all the types of training you could possibly do will make your workouts so much more enjoyable!

I too am constantly learning and still have so much more to learn. I am excited to see what else is out there for me to experience and you should be too. Happy is healthy!

Thanks for reading and until next Sunday, happy blogging!
